The Raveonettes Single Review – Scout

With digital downloads, crowd funding and DIY production it has become easier to break free from the constraints of a traditional album release. The Raveonettes are another band that has decided to do things differently with their new ‘anti-album’.

Scout is the fifth song from the RAVE-SOUND-OF-THE-MONTH playlist where the Danish duo will continue to upload a freshly recorded track on the last Friday of every month until December to create a full album before 2017.

With Scout Sune Rose Wagner and Sharin Foo have created a funky, bass-fuelled and fuzz-filled track. Despite the frustration in the lyrics – “Wanna take this memory and strangle it to death. It’s a mess I guess. Can’t stress enough that I want you” – Foo’s vocals are delicate. The mix of synths, drum machines and guitar riffs is enough to take you back to the moody indie-pop and trip hop of the late 80s/early 90s. There is more than a hint of fellow Nordic band The Sugarcubes here, along with Sneaker Pimps and Portishead.

Scout is proof that this “12-month expedition” with The Raveonettes will be an exciting journey.

You can subscribe to the playlist or, if you prefer to get your hands on a hard copy of the full album, pledge for the CD and vinyl via Pledge Music.
