Jenny Hval gives us a sinister glimpse of eternal life in the video for her latest single Female Vampire.

The Norwegian artist will be releasing her sixth album, Blood Bitch, on 30 September (via Sacred Bones) and Female Vampire is the first single to be taken from it.

The video, directed by Jenny Berger Myhre, was shot on an iPhone and features Hval and friends playing a group of vampires moving through Oslo together. The video is focussed on the relationship between these immortal friends – stuck together at points with glue that is also peeled off during the film. It’s as eerie, and fascinating, as the track itself that throbs under Hval’s delicate and simply divine vocals.

As Hval explains, “Usually, the vampire is depicted as a lonesome, all-knowing and ancient creature combining violence, aggressive sexuality and deceitful youth. The pack behind the video for Female Vampire wanted to explore vampiric eternity in a different narrative: in a group of romancing friends.” On filming the video she says, “We also wanted to combine ideas from old vampire trash movies and modern trashy iPhone videos, resulting in an enigmatic world of time-lapse like slow motion where everything is always moving, or moving on. Not there, or not there yet.”

If this new single and video are anything to go by, this is Hval at her most creative and beguiling.

Get ready to be captivated by Hval when she stops off at the following UK venues on tour later this year:
Monday 17 October – Glasgow, UK @ Stereo
Tuesday 18 October – Manchester, UK @ Soup Kitchen
Wednesday 19 October – London, UK @ Oslo
