The Crookes release sparkling new single Roman Candle, taken from their self-released record Lucky Ones.

This Sheffield four-piece use their travels, and those they meet along the way, to inspire their vibrant pop tunes. Latest album Lucky Ones, released on their own Anywhere Records, is reflective of their colourful journey.

“I think you can’t help but write about whatever you’re feeling at the time, of wherever you are (literally or figuratively),” says guitarist and wordsmith Daniel Hopewell. “Most of the ideas were collected when we were away living out adventures and just having the most fun we’ve ever had.

“When I listen back I can almost sense those feelings of frenzy and breathlessness and excitement from those strange nights in stranger still cities,” he continues.

This track is that perfect combination of uplifting and heart-breaking – The Cure-esque jangling riffs and wandering basslines hide between shimmering synths while George Waite’s vocals soar upwards. It’s also extremely difficult to sit still and listen to. The urge to sway, and jump around, while playing it for the tenth time in a row is difficult to resist.

The Crookes’ starry indie-pop continues to burn bright, which is why they also appear in our list of 10 bands to see at Tramlines 2016.
