Ladyhawke Video Review – Wild Things

Ladyhawke’s joyful electropop skates into ballad territory with new single Wild Things.

Following the release of her synth-fuelled and sugar coated new album in June, Pip Brown (aka Ladyhawke) is sharing the video for title track Wild Things.

The video, like the song, is full of 80s sparkle – all neon colours and youthful exuberance. Shot in slow motion the story revolves, literally, around a female roller derby team – The Wild Things – whose fun around the track is quickly spoiled by the arrival of all-boy team The Flames. A battle on skates ensues and, in true underdog style, I’m sure you can guess the winner. All this plays out while Brown sings in the corner of the track. It’s fiery and uplifting – like the song.

According to Brown, the song was an attempt at having a non-traditional ballad on the album – “more like a dreamy nostalgic love song about reminiscing on your wayward youth”. It perfectly blends this nostalgia with more than a hint of the modern electro-pop of Chvrches in the throbbing synths.

Following the success of recent UK Ladyhawke shows, another larger tour is now being planned for early 2017.

Wild Things will be released on 26 August (via Mid Century Records) and you can watch the video below.
