Corvette is the first single from the forthcoming Shannon And The Clams album Gone By The Dawn, due for release on 11 September.

This is a song that begins sweetly with Shannon Shaw’s vocals a deep purr. As the lyrics turn sour she starts to growl and you realise that this one will have a heart breaking end. It’s a perfect piece of 1950s influenced nostalgia, but is also deliciously dark. Cody Blanchard’s wailing is like the screech of tyres as a car speeds away. When Shaw sings that she’s waiting “on the corner for a corvette that never comes” this is a reminder that none of the heartthrobs behind the wheel of a nice car really exist.

Corvette is a weirdly beautiful song about hopes and hearts dashed by high expectations and dreams. It’s about crappy days rather than happy days and perfectly shows this bands emotionally charged side.
